Solo (day 1)

I was in Solo with a mission to establishing a VSAT FREE TRIAL link connection upon the Solo Regional Office. This job has been dedicated to me to rearrange the vendor company (PT. P****R) from the start until it finished to setup, and me as the mediator between the vendor technicians and my team in Regional Office.

Fortunately, the job was out from the schedules planned earlier. My first day in it is away to waiting the technician and the hardware come from Jakarta. They are so late & not too professional! And I’ve been so mess up with this. Anyway, there are lots of weird things shows that the vendors are not too qualify with it’s job.

In noon, the hardware is finally to arrive. It is contains of steel stacks tower and a dish with 1.8m diameter with a logo picture below (and I was curious what company exactly behind the logo is. I’ll continue my searching time when I logged into my office soon)

So, where the hell is the technician?

Got a Traffic Ticket!

Yesterday was totally my unlucky day. Therefore, it's been several times I had captured by streets cop since I was in Jakarta. Anyway - as usual - the debate session finished with surrendering my money to the police man. What a poor!

I was in my fault with trying to - perhaps, the closest words is extremely inappropriate - hitting the opposite path as I used to be did to avoid the vehicles density upon the Matraman crossroads. Fortunately, I was the only one who did it straightly watched out over the officer.

Well, after a short time negotiation, the amount of Rp. 20.000 had given to him. So, boyz & girl… don’t try this at home!

Hey, Wayne E. Bakewell! Get Yourself a Life, You Lower then Worm Shit Asshole!

For those who unaware which having a paypal account, let’s take a closer look an email come to my inbox. (In other words, don’t freak out if you see something similar in your mailbox, you have lost no money!).

Yes, I’m sure this guy is all fake, the reasons is :
  1. Check the destination “to” field email, it is stated as undisclosed-recipients; this name is defined as a group of email addresses, a lots one it could be. In fact, I notice it before seeing the whole thing. They hid the “to” field. My address and name are not listed as being who the email is to. The point is: it is very weird if PayPal send the customer within a collective addresses in “to” field.
  2. Whenever you get an email that claims to be from PayPal, always look first at who is addressed. If it says, “dear Member,” like this one does, then delete it - it’s completely fake and you have nothing to worry about. A valid PayPal email will always, always, always greet you by your first and last names!
  3. There is nothing detailed item purchased displayed. Do you believe of buying nothing? It is give me a very wide laugh...
  4. Typically these emails contain links to PayPal look-alike sites that are only set-up to steal your login information and from there your balance, credit card info, etc. So don’t click those links! They may be disguised inside of domain names, stupid things like, my–paypal–com.info or something, or they may be IP addresses and just look like random numbers, or they could be anything. he apparently wants my PayPal login information! The only link in this email is a supposed “cancel transaction” and, strangely enough, it currently doesn’t point to a PayPal wannabe site as is typical of these emails. The link points to http://ns.mastel.com.bo/ /dellproduct/index.html, but visiting that site gives me a, “The page cannot be displayed” notice and that’s about it. I’ve heard tale of a certain get-a-phone-call-from-Bank website out there hosting PayPal scams, actually…
  5. Now, I don’t know who Wayne E. Bakewell at 16 Elm St., Brownsville, PA 15417 in the United States is… but whoever he is*, the true thing about Mr. Bakewell is not just that he’s a spammer but apparently a very stupid one. How can he possibly benefit from sending out these emails? Let's Google it!
Now, that right there is enough evidence, but there is one other thing I notice about this email. There are many more, what do YOU see? :)

An Hour with IGN 2006

So, what the hell is IGN 2006? IGN 2006 stands for IGOS (Indonesia Go Open Source) Nusantara 2006, this is the latest open source operating system product provided by Indonesian Research and Technology Ministerial (Kementerian Riset dan Teknologi) over the Indonesian Information and Communication Department (Departemen Komunikasi dan Informasi) as a strive to expanding & to take much more profit of the Open Source Software (OSS) systems.

As an indonesian citizen, I should be very proud of the government which has take a part to make another solution of Information Technology (IT) choices besides of existing commercial closed source dominated by the mighty lord... Micr*soft, although the Indonesian government action is not too well quickly & actively to responding the existing of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) piracy legally law. Moreover, this OSS part has been added to local LINUX histories map just likes you would see at the picture below:

Anyway, about a month ago, we - company, the place I’d been worked - had visited by (or inviting?) the vice deputy of Indonesian Information and Communication Department to support our movement to migrate - any of the whole things - into an OSS. This session was titled: "OSS: The Bright Solution". In the end of his short courses, he gave us a full pack of IGN 2006 setup cd's as a momentous of the day.

However, I just have a chance yesterday to tried the IGN 2006 since I don’t have much time before. The IGN 2006 comes with only 1 CD, powered by the Fedora Core 5 kernel as I had tried previously when I got to work on a research of an distro's election to start the corporate migration mechanism in the middle of last year. Overall, the installation processes was quite easy with an automation modules. It is a common feature of Red Hat derivative distro's. I tested with my Relion Pentium 4 2,66Ghz with 256 Mb of RAM (share 16 Mb for the VGA GMA) & equipped with Intel 915BG motherboard chipset. It finished until the main desktop show up in about less than 30 minutes from it started the installation process.

But wait, why that they:
1. Use Gnome as the default window manager? AFAIK, the KDE is the more user friendliest desktop ever! Somebody who want to learn the OSS quickly should use KDE. What is the main consideration instead of using the Gnome?

2. Don’t use the Midnight Commander (mc) as the easiest text based file manager & text editor? What about if the X get troubles? Are the end user should re-install the Operating System (OS) and having a great risk to loosing the data? I think the next release of IGN should reconsider the existing of this all-in-one small power tool, even that this application is not purposed to common basic users.

3. Removing the automount daemon? This is also the same question if the X is in trouble due to my question number #2. It is a difficult one if we try to mount a removable storage manually since it didn’t create a symbolic link automatically.

These 3 major point above has faced me after an hour previewing this OS. Besides of it, lots of lack are covered I found such as:

1. High CPU resources are needed by this OS kernel. My 256 Mb RAM are fully swallowed with a small parts Kb remained. This is a default factory system remained without any services running available!.

Compared to next images of FC4 with full services running (Apache Web Server, MySQL Database server, NFS, VNC & Samba).

2. The kernel are not supporting our company existing emulator application. It is not because of the IGN 2006 comes with unexisting development package, but the latest version of dosemu are failed to compiled due to incompatible kernel. This is my result research when I had tried FC5 with complete 5CDs before.

Except the deficiency using of FC5, there are more surplus about the latest FC5 kernel likes:

1. More & most undetected hardware are known by FC5. You don’t have to be worry if you’re monitor will not showing kernel panic message anymore. It is just an example about failures of linking & matching with the native hardware driver kernel.

2. This just a consequence of using the newest kernel than FC4. The frame buffer of pure text mode driver are more mature. You will not find a blank console anymore when you switch to text mode & let you troubled to make a change the xorg.conf manually.

Even that the IGN 2006 is lack of cd's, the repository are quite well prepared at address: http://www.igos-source.or.id & there be a dozen of local OSS created by indonesian programmer will come into this room.

Salute to IGN 2006 & long live the OSS!

Result from 2006 Pajak Web Design Contest

Yeah, i was on my luck in 2006 Pajak Web Design Contest session when my name declared as the last winner (Top 6) of the competition. Even i wasn't quite believe when someone from the department official send me an invitation ticket to the prizes.

At a first glance, i was in my trial opinion to join the competition, it happened in September 2006. I was not too interested with the money, but I’d just like to getting participate with the competition. The judges are known as well which makes me interesting to entering the competition. You can read the complete requirement documentations at here and here.

At that time, i was trying to offering something different which i guessed would be accepted at least more than one judge, exclude for the web page as the minimum requirement to joining it. I mean this is just an extra modul to increase the added value of my creation.

Finally, i made a similar like company CD profile - yet another static part of the web page which can widely spread since it able to burned on a cd. To reflecting the default scenario, i also created others unique local slogan shown on top of every single pages. Then, the completed web pages are ready to hosted on an empty space of my registered account at masterwebnet.com, just in case to test the real condition.

Anyway, you can see my contest creation at http://www.epsiter.org.

Internet: (Temporary) Rest In Peace & My Problems

Just like any media had reported, the internet connection was totally down after an earthquake broke up the fiber optic continuation link to the main gateway around the Taiwan regions for couple weeks ago (please click here to read the detailed news comes from detik.com).

This condition affected several aspects including my self. I was on my worried since loosing my "uncle", the Google search engine to support my current & next project in pekan baru to developing an integrated system.

My primary email (programmer.net) are also fell & i was unable to communicate to my any relations. This is my extra suffer looses.

After view days, the international connection link seems alright but it was unstable anyway for some addresses. Just for some example, the wordpress blog link are quite good while the blogger link are totally dead. I'm not sure, why it could happened.

In the same time, i need to make a pulse purchasing transaction over the internet, like to the way i usually did with Bank Niaga. I guess that the local content are not affected, but i was wrong.

The transaction are well accepted, my current account got debt as much as stated. But i realized that there were a mistake about to processing the transaction. In a second, i made a contact with the bank support service to reporting my case & the bank would process it in a week to restore my account. What a next extra suffers!

Anyway, the Bank has re-debt my credit as the customer support promised on his word and makes me more comfortable to enjoy the IT products the Bank would offered. Probably, this is the Bank which has quite great services ever! (for me ;)

Short Day "Vacation" to Yogyakarta

I goes to yogyakarta for a day on December, 29th in order to maintenance the finger print attendance system which had been implemented in Badan Kepegawaian Nasional (BKN) Regional I DIY for almost 2 years.

I leaved Jakarta on Friday and have planning to heading back on Sunday evening with Taksaka executive train. So, i'll facing a new year night up on the railways. It's so sad indeed, but this is my risk as an "soldier".

Just for small statistic data in BKN which having total 341 employees works on it, for almost 2 years - total records covered by MySQL is nearly 150k rows. This is a relevance numbers compared to daily data transaction frequency.

The good news is, my chance to having the same project in a same department located on south sulawesi have being larger. And I patiently waiting for that. Like ancient peoples said: "Gak akan lari gunung dikejar", kan?
